Raemoir Manor Care Home in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, has officially opened its doors and welcomed its first residents, including well-known local historian and retired Banchory Academy Rector, Mr Stewart Wilson. A lifelong recorder of the people, events and history of Deeside, Stewart has strong ties to the local community and a longstanding passion for local and social history.
His interests range from maps of Kincardineshire and the life and works of Robert Burns to the preservation of historic huts used by early Antarctic explorers. Stewart has also produced a fascinating history of the Cunard Line through stamps and vintage postcards, with his collections displayed in the libraries aboard Cunard ships. A familiar figure within the local community, Stewart has dedicated a lifetime of service to the Scout movement and has also been a Rotarian for more than 40 years.
Now settling into his new home at Raemoir Manor Care Home, Stewart said: "This is the greatest place on earth. Everyone is so kind; we are a big happy family."
